Weather Wreaks Havoc with First Round at TPC; Oosthuizen Shoots 69
Friday, March 11, 2022

The weather caused a major disruption in round 1 of the Players Championship yesterday, with one suspension of play coming early in the day and a second due to darkness with a slew of players still on the course and 17 who hadn't teed off yet.

One of those who made it through 18 holes was Ocala's Louis Oosthuizen, who put together nines of 35-34 for a 3-under-par 69, which had him tied for 11th as play was halted.

Louis started on the back nine and promptly bogeyed the 10th hole, but a 4 foot, 10-inch birdie putt on 12 got him back to even. He bogeyed 13, then knocked in a 21-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 16th. He came right back with a 21-foot birdie on the famed 17th island green to get to 2 under. On the front, Louis bogeyed No. 1, but got that one back on the par-5 second by two-putting from just off the front of the green. He then made pars through No. 7, and went to 3 under on 8 with a putt of 23 feet, 7 inches.

As darkness enveloped the TPC Sawgrass, Louis was three strokes behind the duo of Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Hoge, both with 66's. There's a four-way tie for third at 67 among Kramer Hickok, Joaquin Niemann, Keith Mitchell and Anirban Lahiri.

Seminoles: Brooks Koepka is off to a fast start; 2 under after three holes; Hank Lebioda is 1 under after 16, and Daniel Berger is even after three. Gators: Billy Horschel is 1 under after 2, and Brian Gay finished with 4-over-76. Play begins this morning at 7:15.
