Valspar Championship Lacking in Star Power
Tuesday, March 14, 2023

The fourth leg of the Florida swing - the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook - begins Thursday and it's visibly suffering from a lack of star power following the stellar fields of the Honda, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship.

Red-hot Scottie Scheffler, winner of The Players and everything else in sight, won't be at the Copperhead course, and neither will most of the other marquee names from the PGA Tour. In fact, only three players from the top 20 on the FedEx Cup points list will be on hand - No. 4 Keegan Bradley, No. 14 Justin Rose and No. 18 Brian Harman. There are a few handfuls from Nos. 30 to 50.

Tyson Alexander is the only Gator playing, along with Seminole Hank Lebioda.

Scheffler didn't allow anyone to get close in Ponte Vedra, winding up at 17 under par after a Sunday 69. Tyrell Hatton, who shot Sunday's best round - 7-under 65 - finished second at 12 under, followed by Viktor Hovland and Tom Hoge at 10 under. Only 12 players broke 69 in Sunday's finale.
