Two Months Later, Khozan Still Holds Freshman Lead
Wednesday, July 10, 2019

It's been exactly two months since Journeyman Stud's Khozan took over the freshman sire lead in the U. S., and in that time nobody has been able to replace him. The son of Distorted Humor blasted out of the gate with seven early winners and he currently leads by one over Tapiture. There are several others who have four winners, tied for third.

But Tapiture isn't even close to Khozan in the money department; Khozan is well in the lead with $316,433. American Pharoah is second on that list with $214,251.

Journeyman Stud's Brent and Crystal Fernung offered breeders a deal for this year - if Khozan doesn't wind up as Florida's leading fresh sire on Dec. 31, the first 25 breeders who sent a mare to him during the breeding season just ending will not have to pay the $4,000 stud fee. That deal looks to be a cinch for the Fernungs based on the early results. With the six races of the Florida Sire Stakes coming up soon the Khozan colts and fillies who have already been successful will have many more chances to add to the stallion's earnings.
