Monday, August 3, 2020

Justin Thomas rallied from fifth place with a final-round 65 to win the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at 13 under par at the TPC Southwind in Memphis. With the victory, worth a juicy $1,820,000, he took over the top spot in the PGA Tour rankings.

After Thomas finished, Brooks Koepka had a chance to gain a tie, needing only a birdie on the 18th hole. But the former Seminole drove his tee shot into a lake and wound up with a costly double bogey, dropping him from 12 under to 10 under and into a four-way deadlock for second with Seminole buddy Daniel Berger, recently-turned-50 Phil Mickelson and Tom Lewis.

Berger's final-round 65 moved him up 15 spots, and Lewises' 66 moved him up eight. Mickelson closed with 67 and moved up four spots. There were six tied at 9 under, including Xander Schauffele and Jason Day.

Rickie Fowler tanked in the finale with a 73 and dropped to a tie for 15th, and Brendan Todd, the 54-hole leader, shot 75 and dropped into the tie for 15th. Gator Billy Horschel tied for 25th at 5 under.

BARRACUDA CHAMPIONSHIP - Richy Werenski edged Troy Merritt by one point - 39 to 38 - in Truckee, California, with Fabian Gomez and Matthias Schwab one more point behind. Werenski moved up four spots on Sunday after making 13 points, while Merritt made just five.

Aaron Wise moved up 31 spots into eighth with 33 points after making 19 on Sunday. Gator Brian Gay tied for 41st with 20 points.

KORN FERRY TOUR - Seth Reeves shot a final-round 64 to take the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna by one stroke over a group of five. Reeves finished at 273, 11 under par, moving up 26 spots on the final 18. Among the runners-up was 36-hole leader Gator Tyson Alexander, who shot 69-65-71-69-274.

Gator Brett Stegmaier tied for 54th with 72-68-70-75-285, 1 over par.
