Second 74 Sends Potter to Sidelines
Saturday, June 20, 2020

Ted Potter added a second 74 to his opening round at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head yesterday, and as a result he won't be heading into round 3 at the TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley course in Ponte Vedra.

Ted's 148 total is 6 over par and left him very near the bottom of the field, 18 strokes behind leader Webb Simpson (65-65-130). He wound up 36 holes with just five birdies, seven bogeys and another of those pesky doubles. His driving sank on Friday and he hit only 8 of 14 fairways. Same for the greens - he hit just 9 of 18 and those two stats can be pointed to as being directly responsible for his score.

Simpson is far from home at the halfway point, with Bryson DeChambeau and Corey Connors just one stroke behind and 22 players in all within four strokes of the lead. Seminole Brooks Koepka (67-66-133) is tied for sixth at 9 under, and a huge group at 8 under includes Ernie Els, Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau.

Last week's winner, Seminole Daniel Berger (67-69), is tied for 29th at 6 under, and Gator Billy Horschel's 69-60-139, 3 under, missed the cut by one. Gators Brian Gay (+2) and Matt Every (+4) missed the cut, too, along with such as Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Charles Howell III and Patrick Reed.
