Schenk Takes Tenuous Lead into Valspar Finale
Sunday, March 19, 2023

Adam Schenk continues to lead the pack at the 54-hole mark of the Valspar Championship, but his position is anything but secure. Adam's 66-69-70-205 puts him at 8 under par, but he's being shadowed by Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood, who are one stroke back. Webb Simpson, Taylor Moore and Cody Gribble are two back at 6 under, and there arethree more at 5 under and six at 4 under.

It's anybody's crown to take today and it's almost a cinch there will be many leader board changes as play proceeds over today's final 18 hole at Innisbrook's difficult Copperhead course.

Tyson Alexander, who began the day at 1 over par, had it going on the back nine until his round exploded due to a triple bogey 6 on the par 3 13th. He salvaged the round somewhat with birdies at 14 and 17 and finished with a 2-over-73. He begins today at 3 over 216, tied for 59th. If he finishes anywhere around that figure, it will be worth approximately $18,000 to the ex-Gator who now lives in the Jacksonville area but still plays out of Gainesville. He's heading toward the $1.1 million mark in purse money this season and every dollar he can scrape up helps solidify his exempt standing for next year.

Among the others, Seminole southpaw Hank Lebioda's 71-72-73-216 ties him with Tyson at no. 59. Two big Justins - Rose and Thomas - are well down the leader board. Rose, at no. 14 the highest-ranked player in the tournament, is 1 over and tied for 46th; Thomas is 2 under and tied for 20th.
