Sam Ryder Takes 3-Stroke Lead in Farmers Insurance Open
Friday, January 27, 2023

After a disappointing 1-over-par 73 in Wednesday's opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, American Express winner Jon Rahm made the biggest stroll up the leader board via a 5-under 67 yesterday. Jon moved from 102nd place into a tie for 14th, but still wound up the day eight strokes behind Sam Ryder, whose 64-68-132 is 12 under par, and three ahead of runner-up Brendan Steele (65-70-135).

A great majority of the players found round 2 a great deal tougher than round 1, and even though there were a slew of under par rounds on Wednesday, the cut line came at even par 144. Tano Goya, in third place, was one who improved with 70-67-137, 7 under.

Gators Tyson Alexander (72-75-147) and Camilo Villegas (75-77-152) both missed the cut, as did Seminole Hank Lebioda (72-74-146). Defending champ Luke List, who won with 15 under last year, tanked after an opening 67, tacking on a 3-over 75 and he's tied for 24th at 2 under.
