Rose Wins at Pebble Beach; Potter Misses Cut
Wednesday, February 8, 2023

Ted Potter's return to the PGA Tour lasted just three rounds - the three rounds of the weather-plagued AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before the 54-hole cut. Ted shot 73-70 in the first two rounds, and had a chance to make the cut when he needed two birdies over the final six holes, but he made three bogeys instead and bowed out at 4 over par. The cut came at 1 under.

Justin Rose won at Pebble Beach by three strokes over Brendan Todd and Brandon Wu. Justin was 18 under par and he'll be back this week to try to make it two in a row at the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, which has an eye-opening purse of $20 million this time around. Ted isn't eligible and one would have thought that Gator Tyson Alexander would be considering he made a check for $22,822 for a tie for 48th (3 under par) at Pebble which raised his earnings this season to $1,035,356 - 37th on the Tour money list. But, strangely, Tyson is listed as the eighth alternate.

The huge purse has drawn Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Rose, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Matt Kuchar and Jason Day, as strong a field as has been seen since the defectors left for Saudi Arabia and threw the Tour into chaos.

Gators Brian Gay and Billy Horschel are entered, along with Seminole Hank Lebioda, who tied for 15th last week at 9 under par after opening with a leading 63.
