Rainbow Continues to Grow; Whisper Hill Gelding Wins 3rd Straight

    HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 26th consecutive racing day Sunday at Gulfstream Park, producing a carryover jackpot of $763,478 for Thursday’s program. Multiple tickets with six winners were each worth $20,606.  

    The Rainbow 6 was last solved July 6, when one bettor hit for a $173,583 jackpot payoff. Multiple tickets with six winners Sunday were each worth $20,606.82. Sunday’s sequence generated a Rainbow 6 handle of $211,679. The carryover jackpot stood at $712,697 at the start of wagering on the multi-race wager.

    There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $2,642.40 heading into Thursday’s 1:15 p.m. program.

Grand Journey Prevails in Sunday Turf Feature 

    Whisper Hill Farm LLC’s Grand Journey ($7.80) captured his third straight victory in Sunday’s Race 11 feature at, prevailing by a head over multiple stakes winner Galleon Mast in the mile optional claiming allowance on turf.

    The 4-year-old gelded son of Giant’s Causeway sat off a contested early pace under Emisael Jaramillo before making a wide drive though the stretch to catch Galleon Mast, who had cut the corner to take the lead in mid-stretch only to be collared late. Grand Journey, who ran a mile in 1:34.56 over a firm turf course, had made his first four starts in claiming races,

    “He was a journey,” owner/breeder Mandy Pope said.

    Grand Journey, who broke his maiden for a $40,000 claiming price last September, has won three straight optional claiming allowances.

    “It was a journey to get here," trainer Ralph Nicks said. "He’s doing well. He’s putting it all together and is becoming more professional. It was a tough group today and he keeps stepping up.
