Rahm Wins Again; Tiger 45th in Genesis
Monday, February 20, 2023

Tiger's limp became more evident Sunday as round 4 of the Genesis Invitational wore on, and too many bogeys - five - cost him a much higher spot in the $20 million event won by Jon Rahm with a 17-under-par 67. It's Rahm's fourth victory of the season.

Tiger struggled in the finale and couldn't repeat the great work he put in Saturday; he wound up with rounds of 69-74-67-73-283, 1 under par over the difficult Riviera Country Club course, and he tied for 45th. The payday of $59,560 brought his PGA record earnings to $120,954,766. Over 72 holes, Tiger made 1 eagle, 13 birdies, 44 pars and 14 bogeys, but he couldn't replicate his former great work on the greens, when putts of 10 feet and less were almost automatic. And he looked tired as Sunday's round progressed.

He averaged 306 yards off the tee, with his best a whopping 364. He hit 42 of 72 greens in regulation, and just 28 of 56 fairways, which didn't help his bottom line.

Rahm defeated Max Homa by two strokes, Patrick Cantlay by three, and Will Zalatoris, who closed the fastest with a 7-under 64, by four. Homa has won twice this season.

Tiger's next outing is up in the air, but he did say he'll play all the majors, and a few undisclosed others from time to time; Bay Hill and the Memorial make some sense.

The Tour heads to South Florida this week for the Honda Classic, without Tiger, but with Gainesville's Tyson Alexander, who should be eligible every week from now on after the recent reshuffle; he's earned nearly $1.1 million thus far this season.
