Potter's Missed Cut Streak Ends in Puerto Rico
Saturday, March 4, 2023

    The streak has ended!

Ted Potter made the cut right on the line yesterday at the Puerto Rico Open, ending a span of misses that dates back to July 18 of 2021, the day he tied for 47th in the Barbasol Championship with rounds of 69-68-68-74-279, four under par. Since then, he hasn't cashed a check in 12 straight events, both on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry levels.

Ted missed the cut in his last two events of 2021, all nine events in 2022 and the recent AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which he was eligible for as a past champion (2018).

After his opening round of 1-under-par 71 on Thursday, Ted added an even-par 72 Friday and finished at 1 under, among a group of 11 who tied for 60th, the final qualifying spot to make it to the weekend at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. He began on the back nine and made two birdies and a bogey, and after a bogey on No. 6 dropped him back to even par, Ted needed to play 7, 8 and 9 without a bogey. He did it with pars on all three.

Carson Young leads the field at 14 under par with rounds of 63-67-130. Paul Haley and Nico Echavarria are tied for second at 10 under, followed by Harry Higgs at 9 under. Interestingly, every player who made the cut - 70 in all - is over No. 100 on the FedEx Cup points list. Andrew Novak is the highest at No. 102, and he's tied for 34th at 4 under.

Gator Camilo Villegas posted his best numbers in quite a while, his 68-71-138 is 5 under par and tied for 25th. The once formidable Camilo is 212th on the points list. Ted has no FedEx points and if he finishes right where he is after 36 holes, he'll move onto the list at No. 224.
