Potter Tries Again in Houston Open
Monday, October 7, 2019

The old-timers' list for the Houston Open consists of Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Bill Haas, J. J. Henry, Hunter Mahan, Henrik Stenson, Omar Uresti and Boo Weekley, none likely to be listedas among the favorites to take home the major share of the $7.5 million. The No. 1 alternate is Stuart Appleby.

Otherwise, the field hoping to tear up the Golf Club of  Houston is again loaded with the Young Turks who have been dominating the Tour for months. Ted Potter is in after his major disappointment in Las Vegas when he bogeyed two of the last three holes on Friday and missed the cut by one stroke. Two Gators are playing - Brian Gay and Matt Every - along with  two Seminoles - Daniel Berger and Hank Lebioda.

Kevin Na defeated Patrick Cantlay on the second playoff hole in Vegas after they tied for the lead at 22 under. Na closed with 70, and Cantlay with 68. Both birdied the par-4 18th on the first go-around, then Na made par and Cantlay took a bogey to end it. Pat Perez finished third at 21 under.

Three players tied for fourth, including Bryson DeChambeau and Adam Hadwin, who both shot Sunday 63s. Gay was steady all week and wound up tied for seventh at 19 under, while Every and Berger were part of an 11-way deadlock for 18th at 15 under.
