Sunday, October 14, 2018

After posting a neat 4-under-par 68 in the third round of the CIMB Classic, Ted Potter experienced a roller coaster ride in the finale at the TPC Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Ted began on the back nine and immediately took a bogey and two doubles and was 5 over par after three holes. A birdie on No. 14 limited the damage on the nine to a 4-over 40. He made a huge turnaround on the front with birdies at 1 through 4, before taking a bogey on the par-5 fifth. He got that one back with a birdie on No. 7 for a front-nine 32 and an even-par 72. Ted remained at 7 under and finished in a tie for 54th. He earned $14,200 and made his first appearance on the PGA Tour money list at No. 98.

Marc Leishman ran away and hid in the finale, winding up at 26 under par and with a five-stroke edge over Emiliano Grillo, Chesson Hadley and Bronson Burgoon. Justin Thomas was alone in fifth at 20 under.

In the 78-player field, birdies were abundant, with 71 finishing under par. Gator Billy Horschel was 11 under and  tied for 33rd, while Brian Gay was 2 under and tied for 69th.
