Potter Starts Well, Ends Well, Nothing in Between
Friday, July 6, 2018

Ted Potter birdied the first hole he played at Greenbrier yesterday. That was No. 10. He also birdied the last hole he played. That was No. 9. But on the 16 holes in between, he made no birdies and five bogeys, and finished the A Military Tribute @ the Greenbrier with a 3-over-par 73 at the Old White TPC course.

That's a far cry from his 2012 performance in the event, when he won in a playoff after shooting 16-under-par 264. That year, Ted posted rounds of 69-67-64-64, and it's going to take some fancy shot-making today to make the cut, which looks like it will come at minus 1. Toget there, he'll have to shoot 4-under 66 when he tees off at 12:50 today.

Rejuvenated Webb Simpson leads after the first round with a 9-under 61, one stroke better than Whee Kim, so low scoring is not out of the question. Phil Mickelson is tied for 10th after a 66.

Gators: Brett Stegmaier -3, tied for 25th; Matt Every -1, tied  for 65th; Brian Gay even par; Chris Couch 1 over.
