Potter Rebounds With 3 Late Birdies in Dominican Republic
Friday, March 26, 2021

Ted Potter was off to a less-than-auspicious start yesterday in the first round of the $3 million Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republi. He made just one birdie on the back nine while taking three bogeys and a double and posting a 4-over-par 40.

After a bogey on No. 2, Ted headed for the third tee at 5 over, a precarious position considering the early cut line was projected at even-par 72. Ted didn't show any signs of quitting, however, and birdied the fourth hole to get back to 4 under, and added another on the par-5 seventh. He then hit the green on the par-3 ninth, canned the putt for a deuce, and walked off with a 2-over 74, retaining his hopes for making his fifth cut in his last six starts.

There are 71 players in the field of 132 at even par or better over the Corales Golf Club course.

Stephan Jaeger is the first-round leader after a 6-under-par 66, one stroke ahead of Joel Dahmen and Andrew Yun.

Seminole Hank Lebioda is on the cut line with a 72, tied for 55th place, but Gators Matt Every and Camilo Villegas both shot 75 and are tied for 102nd.
