Potter Opens With 72 at Safeway Open
Friday, October 6, 2017

Ted Potter opened the 2017-2018 PGA Tour season with a ho-hum round of even-par 72 at the $6.2 million Safeway Open in Napa, California. Ted began on the back nine at the Silverado Resort & Spa and made one birdie and one bogey, then took nine straight pars on the front. He's tied for 61st, right on the early cut line.

Brendan Steele, Tyler Duncan and Tom Hoge are tied for the lead at 7 under in the field devoid of most of the tour's stars. Phil Mickelson opened with 3-under-par 69, while Brett Stegmaier led the Gator contingent with 2-under 70 and is tied for 24th. Matt Every checked in with 72, Camilo Villegas is one stroke off the cut line at 73 and Brian Gay has some work to do after a 3-over 75.

John Daly is at 2-over 74, Nick Lindheim at 3-over 75 and Rob Oppenheim at 5-over 77.
