Potter Misses Cut in Puerto Rico; Rowland Fires Best Champions Round
Saturday, March 5, 2022

Ted Potter's woes continued at the Puerto Rico Open on Friday , while Roger Rowland posted his best round of the Champions Tour season at the Hoag Classic in New Port Beach, California.

Ted's rounds of 81-76-157 missed the cut of minus 1 by 14 strokes, and the reasons are obvious; he hit just 8 of 28 fairways, leading to only 18 of 36 greens in regulation . . . a sure recipe for defeat. He made three birdies over the two rounds, along with eight bogeys and four doubles. Ryan Brehm is the halfway leader at 11 under par, and there's a three-way tie for second.

The lone Seminole in the field is Chase Seiffert, and he's tied for 14th after a second-round 72; he was leading after the first round with a 7-under 65.

Gators: Matt Every is best with 71-70-141, 3 under, tied for 42nd; and Brett Stegmaier missed the cut with 71-73-144, even par. Brett needed one birdie on the last four holes to get to the weekend, but made all pars. Camilo Villegas (74-71-145) and Chris Couch (73-73-146) also headed home.

In Roger's first six rounds with the seniors, his best was a 72 in the Chubb Classic; the other five were all 76 and up. Yesterday, playing the back nine first, he fashioned an even-par 71, which could have been better but he bogeyed Nos. 2 and 7 on his second nine after getting it to 2 under with a birdie on No. 1. He's tied for 38th behind Cameron Beckman, who shot a 7-under 64, including an eagle on the 18th hole. Beckman leads by one over Stephen Dodd and amazing Bernhard Langer.

Gators: Chris DiMarco and Scott Dunlap (72, tied for 52nd): Mark Calcavecchia (76, tied for 73rd). Dunlap snuck in from the alternate list.
