Potter Closes With 66 at RSM, Ties for 46th

Ted Potter finally solved the Seaside course at Sea Island on Sunday, but even though his 4-under-par 66 in the finale lifted him to 9 under, the rest of the field in the RSM Classic shot the lights out and prevented him from cashing a major check.

Scores were so good that Ted was only able to muster up a tie for 46th, and the resultant check was $16,864. Still, not a bad payday for four days in an event so close to home. It boosted his earnings for the new season to $195,874, and he dropped from 80th to 85th on the PGA Tour money list. He also dropped from 93rd on the FedEx points list to 99th.

Ted began on the back nine and promptly birdied 10 and 11. He added birdies at 14 and 15, but bogeys at 12 and 17 kept him at 2 under. On the front nine, he birdied No. 4 with a putt of 10 feet, 6 inches to get it to 3 under, but he missed a 10-footer for birdie on No. 7 and another of 10 feet, 8 inches on 8 to remain at 3 under for the day.

On the final hole, however, Ted's second shot on the par 4 came to rest 38 feet, 6 inches from the hole - and he canned it to complete his 4-under round.

Charles Howell, who had led from the start, didn't finish strongly and had to settle for a deadlock for first with Patrick Rodgers at 19 under. On the playoff hole, the par-4 18th, both made par on the first go-around, and Howell won it with a birdie the second time.

Successful Gators: Matt Every continued on his comeback with 69-69-65-66, 13 under, and tied for 15th. Brian Gay shot 69-67-65-69, 12 under, and tied for 23rd.
