Potter Bows Out at Erin Hills
Saturday, June 17, 2017

Ted Potter bowed out of the U. S. Open yesterday, derailed by a string of bogeys that propelled him to a 4-over-par 76 and a two-day total of 6-over-par 150, five off the cut line of plus 1.

But Ted wasn't the only one who fell victim to the fescue at Erin Hills, and as many marquee names didn't make it to the weekend, as did. The on-their-way-home list included Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Bubba Watson, Henrik Stenson, Jon Rahm, Jason Dufner, Justin Rose, Jason Day and Charl Schwartzel. It also included Gators Billy Horschel (79-78) and Tyson Alexander (71-77), and Seminole Daniel Berger (78-75). Tyson was still alive after 12 holes, right on the cut line, but he took two bogeys and a double on the next few holes to kill his chances.

There is  four-way deadlock for the lead at 7 under among Paul Casey, Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Seminole Brooks Koepka. Rickie Fowler, the first-round leader with 65, had it to 9 under early in the round, but a string of three bogeys dropped him to 6 under and a share of fifth.

Ted made four bogeys and one birdie on the front nine and two bogeys and a birdie on the back for his 76. He's entered in the Web.com's $550,000 Lincoln Land Charity Championship this week in Springfield, Illinois, along with Dan McCarthy, two-time winner of the Ocala Open at Candler Hills.
