Potter, Alexander Miss Cut in Mexico
Saturday, April 29, 2023

Ted Potter and Tyson Alexander both shot 2-under-par 69 in round 2 but both missed the cut in the Mexico Open at Vidanta in Vallarta yesterday, leaving the $7.7 million event without a weekend player from the Ocala/Gainesville area.

Making a rare appearance due to his lost exemption, Ted's 73-69-142, even par, missed the cut by two strokes; Tyson's 74-69-143, one over, missed by three. Ted had it to 3 under after 13 holes yesterday and needed one more birdie to make the cut, but a bogey on the par-5 14th killed his chances. Tyson made four birdies on the par 5s, as he has been doing lately, but still fell three strokes short.

Tony Finau leads the field with 65-64-129, 13 under par, followed by Erik van Rooyen and Brandon Wu at 12 under. There are five tied for fourth at 9 under. Defending champ Jon Rahm is tied for 12th at 7 under (67-68-135). He won the last edition at 17 under and collected $1,314,000.

Gator Camilo Villegas missed the cut with a pair of 71s, and Seminole Hank Lebioda missed with 73-74.
