PGA Tour Events Will Be Without Spectators Beginning Tomorrow
Thursday, March 12, 2020

As the Tournament Players Championship was airing on Golf Channel today, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced that after today's first round, the PGA Tour will follow the lead of the NBA, the NHL, tennis and several other sports organizations in an attempt to control coronavirus as far as their events are concerned.

For the time being, the Tour will not suspend play as other organizations have done. However, spectators will not be allowed to attend tournaments from now through the Texas Valero Open, beginning with tomorrow's second-round play at the TPC course in Ponte Vedra.

Of course, that decision is open to constant revision, depending on how the virus spreads, or is considered in check. Next week's event is the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, followed by the WGC Championship in Austin, Texas and the satellite Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in Dominican Republic the same week, then the Valero Open.

The Masters, which is set to begin April 9, is not yet involved, until further notice.
