Monday, March 27, 2023

With Ted Potter missing the cut, it was left to Gator Tyson Alexander to uphold the honor of the Ocala/Gainesville players in the $3.8 million Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

The PGA rookie made the cut with a pair of 70s at the par-72 Corales Golf Course, then added weekend rounds of 71 and 69 for a 280 total, 8 under par. He finished tied for 26th and collected a check for $29,450, which raised his earnings for the season to $1,098,016. That put him in 71st place on the Tour money list.

Tyson's play on the par-5 holes over four rounds can be classified as slightly better than awesome. He made 11 birdies, 4 pars and one bogey - playing the 16 holes in 10 under par.

Matt Wallace closed with a 6-under 66 to win the event at 19 under par, one stroke better than Nicolai Hojgaard, who closed with a 4-under 68. Wallace took home $684,000, Hojgaard $414,000. Tyler Duncan and Sam Stevens deadlocked for third at 17 under and banked $224,000 apiece. Duncan closed with 68, Stevens with 69.

Seminole Hank Lebioda finished at 2 under par and tied for 52nd.

Next on the agenda is the $8.9 million Valero Texas Open, and neither Potter nor Alexander is entered.
