Monday, December 5, 2022

Osten Waite of Ocala, son of former PGA Tour player Grant Waite, has qualified for the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and made his first check yesterday - $788.

Osten, 28, shot 75-70-71-72-288, even par, at the first event of the season, the VISA Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, and tied for 46th. Zack Fischer won the event at 18 under par.

Osten qualified for the tour in November at the qualifying event in Argentina, tying for 10th despite a final-round 79; he opened with 68-69-71 and wound up at 1-under 287. After round 2, Osten was 7 under par and was the halfway leader with a two-stroke lead.

Osten will be playing this week in the Neuquen Argentina Classic, as will Manuel Torres, a frequent Ocala visitor with friends here. Manuel tied for 26th yesterday after rounds of 70-72-69-73-284, 4 under par. He collected $1,302. Manuel retained his privileges on the tour by finishing 42nd on the money list last season.
