Erik Barnes of Bradenton and Brad Brunner of Tampa deadlocked for first with 7-under-par 64s Wednesday in the opening round of the 15th edition of the Ocala Open at Candler Hills Country Club. The duo holds a one-stroke edge over Vincent Torgah of Jacksonville, Michael Visacki of Sarasota and perennial Ocala Open participant Willie Mack III of Flint, Michigan. 

    There are three former winners of the event in the field of 107; 2018 champion Kevin Aylwin of New Smyrna Beach opened with 4-under-67, 2014 champ Patrick Sheehan of Oviedo is tied for 25th with 2-under-69, and 2012 champ Yohann Benson of Harmony is at 1-under 70.

    Former PGA Tour player Tadd Fujikawa of St. Simon's Island posted a 1-under 70, and ex-Gator and Tour player Bubba Dickerson of Fernandina Beach, winner of the 2001 U. S. Amateur, shot 2-under 69. Bubba also won the Chitimacha Open in Louisiana while on the Nationwide Tour. 

    Among the locals, Osten Waite, son of teacher and Champions Tour player Grant Waite, was best with a 1-under 70. Tied at 73 are Ocalans Orlando Merced and Christian Anderson, along with Tyler Hock of Dunnellon. Stu Michaels of The Villages posted a 76 and Marty Musgrave of Ocala an 82.
