Masters Promises to Deliver Great Golf - and Fireworks, too
Monday, April 3, 2023

The Masters is upon us. An event that draws zillions of viewers on TV and hordes on the hallowed course, and this week it could all get crazier.

Why? (1) Tiger has returned - enough said.

    (2) A bunch of LIV players have been given the green light to join the fun at Augusta National, and with the us vs. them growling that seems never-ending, including between long-time friends, since the new league has changed the face of the game, this edition of the Masters promises to be one of the most remembered.

There are 88 bodies who will begin teeing off on Thursday, and eight are oldies but goodies. Former winners Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Larry Mize, Jose Maria Olazabal, Vijay Singh, and Mike Weir are on the schedule, and who knows how many of the elderly eight - if any - will be there just to watch the fireworks. And it's even money there will be fireworks considering the mouths of Rory McIlroy on one side and such as Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed and Mickelson on the other.

Ocala's Louis Oosthuizen comes to Augusta off a disappointing tie for 41st, along with Phil, in the LIV's event in Orlando that ended yesterday. Gator Brooks Koepka won it at 15 under, two strokes better than Sebastian Munoz, and took home $4 million, while Munoz collected a mere $2,125,000. Oostie and Phil had to settle for $132,000 each.

Munoz's Torque team won the four-man competition at 36 under par, good for a team split of $3 million. Brooks' Smash team was second and split $1.5 million.

The Masters has no team event, but by Thursday, somebody may put together a mixed martial arts competition. Stay tuned.
