Ted Potter suffered through a lost weekend at the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae, unable to keep it going after getting it to 6 under par after 36 holes. Ted tacked on a pair of 3-over-par 73s and his even-par 280 dropped him into a tie for 70th place. The meager check for $1,422 lifted his earnings to $199,379 and he fell one spot on the money list, from 11th to 12th.
Martin Piller finished at 18-under 262 to win the event by one stroke over Brandon Harkins and collected a check for $108,000. That vaulted Gerina Piller's husband from 105th on the list to 24th with a total of $140,195.
The Web.com Tour has just three events remaining on the regular-season schedule, beginning with this week's $675,000 Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr. Pepper at the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Missouri. Ted will sit this one out, looking ahead to the $550,000 News Sentinel Open in Nashville and the $800,000 WinCo Foods Portland Open. That will be the last chance for players to break into "the 25" and ensure their PGA exemption for next season, or to make the top 75 in order to be eligible to compete in the playoffs, comprised of four $1 million September events at the conclusion of which another 25 PGA cards will be handed out.
KIM HANGS ON AT ST. ANDREW'S - I. K. Kim headed into Sunday's final round of the Women's British Open with a daylight lead at St. Andrew's, and did just enough to hang on for a two-stroke victory over fast-closing Jodi Ewart Shadoff. Kim began the day at 17 under par and only was able to muster up a 1-under 71 to go to 18 under. Shadoff went on a birdie spree and posted an 8-under 64, picking up seven strokes and making it interesting late in the day.
Michelle Wie, 10 strokes behind when play began, shot 6-under 30 on the front nine and was causing a stir, but she stumbled on the back nine and wound up with a 66 for 275, five behind Kim, who collected $504,821 for the victory. Shadoff earned $302,899 for second while Wie wound up in a tie for third with Caroline Masson and Georgia Hall, each picking up $175,509.
Paula Creamer, hoping to do enough for Solheim Cup captain Juli Inkster to pick her as one of the final two members of the team, shot 8-under 280 and lost out to youngster Angel Yin and Austin Ernst. Gator Sandra Gal shot 72-70-70-73-285, 3 under par, and came away with $11,000.
RUNAWAY IN AKRON - Hideki Matsuyama ripped the Firestone course for a 9-under 61 on Sunday for a total eclipse of the loaded field in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. He wound up at 16 under par to grab the check of $1,660,000, and was five strokes ahead of runner-up Zach Johnson, who pocketed $1,045,000 in defeat.
Both Seminoles, Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka, were at 3 under 277 and earned $95,500, while the lone Gator, Billy Horschel, was horrendous for three rounds before closing with a 2-under 68 and ended at 19 over. He collected $43,875.
