Gooch Wins LIV Event: He's $4,375,000 Richer
Monday, April 24, 2023

No matter how many LIV events we take notice of, we still continue to be astounded by the monumental payouts the PGA Tour defectors are putting in the bank.

Talor Gooch won the latest go-around in Adelaide, Australia and earned the big check for $4 million, plus another $375,000 as part of the split of the runner-up money in the team competition by his Rangegoats GC. The $4,375,000 total is nearly half of what Gooch collected in 121 tries on the PGA Tour - $9.25 million.

Gooch ripped off a pair of 62s in the first two rounds and held an insurmountable (almost) 10-stroke lead heading into the finale. By the time he reached the 11th tee, however, the lead had shrunk to one. But he was able to muster up two late birdies and won by 3 over Anirban Lahiri, who had to settle for a measly $2,125,000.

The winning team in the 4-man competition - 4Acres GC - consists of Patrick Reed, Pat Perez, Dustin Johnson and Peter Uihlein, good for $750,000 apiece. The third-place team - Stinger GC (Ocala's Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmeister, Brandon Grace) - split $500,000 ($125,000 apiece).

Oostie finished in a monster tie for 11th in the individual competition with Jason Kokrak, Bubba Watson, Kevin Na, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson, Harold Varner III, Seminole Brooks Koepka and Abraham Ancer. They each struck for $310,000. Even Sam Horsfield, who withdrew from the tournament, picked up $80,000.
