Koepka, Berger Back for Traveler's, Potter, Too
Monday, June 18, 2018

The horde of TV golf analysts often point to the colleges of the PGA Tour players, with Alabama, Oklahoma State, Texas, USC and several others always in the forefront. But Florida State is squarely in that position for this week after the second straight U. S. Open victory of Brooks Koepka, buoyed by the tie for sixth from Seminole teammate Daniel Berger.

Koepka did a masterful job of retaining his cool down the stretch, posting a final-round 68 for a 1-over-par 281 and a one-stroke margin over Tommy Fleetwood and two over Dustin Johnson, who blew what was thought to be an insurmountable 36-hole lead by shooting a third-round 77.

Shinnecock Hills was without question the winner, with Ted Potter missing the cut at 14 over and Tiger Woods doing likewise at 10 over, joining on the sidelines for the weekend many others expected to do better. Then there was Byeong Hun An, who made the cut then bombed out on Saturday and Sunday to finish in 67th place at 26 over par.

The action moves a little bit north this week for the Traveler's Championship at the River Highlands course in Cromwell, Conn., outside of Hartford. Ted Potter will be there for the first time since 2014, when he shot 69-72-141 (1 over) and missed the cut. Koepka and Berger are playing, too, along with Gators Matt Every, Billy Horschel and Brett Stegmaier.
