Kisner, Matsuyama Tied for PGA Lead
Saturday, August 12, 2017

The greens were softer, putting was no longer a recipe for disaster and the scores were generally better on the second day of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C.  Although 25 players were still on the course when the horn sounded signaling it was too dark to continue Friday evening, Kevin Kisner and Hideki Matsuyama were going to be the co-leaders at 8-under 134 heading into today's moving day.

Kisner added a second straight 67 to retain the top spot while Matsuyama joined him after firing a 7-under-par 64, low round of the day. It was equaled only by Francesco Molinari, who moved up from 2-over par to 5 under and into a tie for fourth with Louis Oosthuizen, who posted 70-67-137. Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Paul Casey were well within hailing distance at 3 under with 36 holes remaining.

Rory McIlroy is at 2 over, as are Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson, and Jon Rahm is another stroke behind. Among the over-50 set, Steve Stricker (+3) and Vijay Singh (+3) are still around, but not Ernie Els (+8) and John Daly (+11).

The round featured some hilarious moments after the horn sounded at the end as players scrambled to tee off on No. 18 so they wouldn't have to come out early this morning to finish their rounds.

Among the Seminoles, Brooks Koepka added a 2-over 73 to his opening 68 and is tied for 10th at 1 under par, but teammate Daniel Berger missed the cut with 73-76-149. Gator Billy Horschel rebounded from a Thursday 76 for 1-under 70 and made the cut at plus 4, one better than the final cut line. Not so lucky and heading home for the weekend are such pre-tournament favorites as Justin Rose (+6), Bubba Watson (+7), Sergio Garcia (+8) and Phil Mickelson (+11).
