Sunday, July 7, 2019

HALLANDALE BEACH - Gulfstream Park’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 was hit again Saturday by one bettor for $173,583. It comes just 10 days after it was last hit on June 27 for $3.151 million.

Saturday’s sequence ended with long shot Blind Ruckus ($54.60) winning the 12th and final race. Blind Ruckus was one of two horses with tickets alive going into the last leg. The other was on Chirping, who finished fourth.

The Rainbow 6 begins anew today with the sequence spanning races 6-11. There will be a Super Hi 5 carryover of $3,492.19.

The $75,000 Mecke Stakes will headline the program in Race 5. Carl Lizza Racing Stables Uno Emayo will be seeking his third victory in a row and fourth in five starts in the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes named for the multiple Gr. 1 stakes-winner on dirt and turf campaigned by trainer Manny Tortora in the 1990s.

Trained by Lilli Kurtinecz, the 6-year-old gelding who won the Lil Magician starter stakes in February, is coming off back-to-back optional claiming starter allowances in going-away fashion.

Mecke was a multiple graded winner bred by Farnsworth Farms, owned by James Lewis Jr., and trained by Tortora. He won the Gr. I Arlington Million, Gr. I Early Times Turf Classic and Gr. I Super Derby, and finished fifth in the 1995 Kentucky Derby.
