Gulfstream Posts Record Weekends

    HALLANDALE BEACH - Gulfstream Park’s Championship Meet has gotten off to a flying start with consecutive record weekends in the month of December.

    Sunday’s 11-race program wrapped up a record December weekend in which total handle Saturday and Sunday was $26.088 million, eclipsing the previous record of $22.143 million, set Dec. 7-8.

    Total handle on Saturday’s card, featuring five stakes, was $17.318 million, a record for a Saturday in December. The program included victories by multiple graded stakes-winner War Story in the Gr. III Harlan’s Holiday, Instilled Regard in the Gr. II Fort Lauderdale and Pink Sands in the Gr. III Rampart.

    The weekend of Dec. 7-8 featured the $1.11 million Claiming Crown and $690,000 Clasico Internacional del Caribe.

    The Championship Meet resumes Wednesday with a 10-race program and a 12:35 p.m. first race post. The 20-cent Rainbow 6 kicks off with the fifth race, a maiden special weight event for 2-year-olds going one mile on the main track. The second leg will feature 2-year-old fillies and mares going five furlongs on the turf.
