It happened in Augusta:

(1) The public sniping between the PGAers and the LIVers never materialized. The majesty and tradition of Augusta National apparently trumped everything else. That was a good thing.

(2) The horrible weather after Thursday really spoiled the whole Masters experience, for the players, the spectators and the TV audience.

(3) The sight of Tiger limping around in the rain was heartbreaking. He wants to play in all the majors, but we may not see him again for a long time - if ever.

(4) Phil Mickelson's Sunday 65 that moved him into a tie for second at 8 under was a thing of beauty. Brooks Koepka's shot at becoming the first Seminole to win the Masters evaporated under a slew of bogeys near the end, amid a bunch of missed short putts.

(5) The PGAers finished first and tied for fourth (Rahm and Jordan Spieth), the LIVers finished tied for second (Brooks and Phil), and fifth (Patrick Reed).

(6) U. S. Amateur winner Sam Bennett showed great poise and thrilled the galleries with his opening pair of 68s, but he collapsed under the weekend pressure, still getting a tie for 14th at 2 under. He will be back.

(7) Freddy Couples was the only oldie to make the cut; he finished tied for 50th at 9 over.

(8) Gator Billy Horschel barely made the cut, but was never a factor with a Sunday 79.
