Dearth of Star Power Makes Valspar Wanting
Saturday, March 18, 2023

The rift between the PGA Tour and the upstart LIV Tour is nowhere more telling than on the leader board at the halfway point of the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook's Copperhead course in Palm Harbor. There are only seven players currently in the top 50 on the FedEx Cup points list competing in the event with its healthy purse of $8.1 million.

Justin Rose is the highest member of that group - he's no. 14 - and it's another 10 spots back to Nick Taylor at no. 24. Both players have made it inside the cut line of plus 1 with even-par totals, Rose with a pair of 71s and Taylor with 72-70.

The top of the board belongs to Adam Schenk, who has put together rounds of 66-69-135, 7 under par. His FedEx number is 72. Adam is one ahead of Kramer Hickok, whose pair of 68s put him at 6 under, and one ahead of the quartet of Cody Gribble, Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Spieth and Davis Riley. FedEx-wise Hickok is no. 127, Gribble no. 163, Fleetwood no. 97, Spieth a disappointing no. 65 and Riley no. 86.

There's a lot of good golf being exhibited, but something's definitely missing.

Gator rookie Tyson Alexander made another cut with 73-70-143, and he's tied for 52nd right on the cut line, along  with 20 others. Tyson's round of 70 was fashioned via three birdies and two bogeys. He tees off today at 9:10 a. m. partnered with Kevin Streelman. Seminole Hank Lebioda posted 71-72-143 to make the cut, and he's at no. 164 on the FedEx list. Tyson is no. 56.
