Carryover Nearing $1.3 Million
Thursday, September 12, 2019

HALLANDALE BEACH - The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot continued to build to life-changing proportions at Gulfstream Park today, when the multi-race wager went unsolved for the 38th consecutive day. The carryover jackpot will stand at $1,294,231 for Friday’s 2:15 p.m. twilight program.

Multiple tickets with five of six winners were each worth $1,646.88.

Friday’s sequence will span Races 4-9, including a stakes-quality optional claiming allowance in Race 9. The six-furlong race will be contested by Quijote, the 2018 Sunshine Millions Sprint winner who will make his second start off a layoff; Three Rules, the 2016 Florida Sire Stakes champion who is set to return off a four-month layoff; Harryhee, a hard-hitting stakes-winner who is coming off an optional claiming allowance victory; and six others.

The Rainbow 6 was last solved July 6, when one bettor hit for a $173,583 payoff. The carryover stood at $1,262,470 at the start of wagering and $132,377 was bet into the pool.

There were no tickets with all five winners of the Late Pick 5, producing a carryover of $32,181 for Friday. The Late Pick 5 will span Races 5-9.

Richard the Great Makes Stellar Return

Richard the Great, a stakes-winning son of Distorted Humor, returned from a 13-month layoff in top form in Race 4 on today’s program. The graded stakes-placed Arindel Farm homebred hustled to the early lead from the rail, rebuffed a backstretch challenge and drew off in the seven-furlong waiver claiming race by 8 ¾ lengths. Ridden by Emisael Jaramillo, the 7-year-old gelding set fractions of :22.94, :45.82 and 1:09.77 on his way to a final clocking of 1:23.83 over a sloppy sealed track.

Richard the Great paid $4.60 and was not eligible to be claimed while making his return off the long layoff. He had been working sharply for trainer Juan Alvarado at both Arindel Farm in Ocala and Gulfstream in preparation for the race.
