Broward County Honors Gaffalione

HALLANDALE BEACH - Jockey Tyler Gaffalione was honored for his accomplishments on and off the track Tuesday when Broward County proclaimed March 10 as “Tyler Gaffalione Day.”

Commissioner Michael Udine, representing Broward County’s District 3, said the proclamation “recognized how he grew up in Broward County, how he was voted and won the Champion Apprentice Jockey award, and his work with non-profit organizations throughout the county and how he won the 2019 Preakness.”

Gaffalione, who entered the week third in money won and fourth in wins at Gulfstream’s Championship Meet, said he couldn’t believe it when he was informed of the proclamation. "It’s my home and for [Broward] County to acknowledge and notice my accomplishments is truly amazing,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of Gulfstream Park and all the workers who put in countless hours, along with the trainers, and, of course, my agent, Matt Muzikar. I’m so thankful for this.”

Gaffalione added he was proud of being recognized for his work in the community. “This is very humbling,” he said. “This sport has given so much to me, so it’s always nice to be able to give back. Hopefully, we can continue to build on that support and grow the recognition for these non-profit foundations.”

When asked about his goals, Gaffalione said: “I’d like to win the Kentucky Derby this year, hopefully. I just hope to have a long and prosperous career, staying healthy and see where it takes me.”
