Rowland is 55th in Hoag Classic in California
Sunday, March 6, 2022

Roger Rowland slipped in the second round of the Hoag Classic, but he salvaged the day somewhat by rolling in birdies on the 17th and 18th holes in Newport Beach, California.

After making two birdies and three bogeys for a front-nine 36, Roger stumbled on the next two holes with double bogey-bogey and added another bogey on 15 to drop to 5 over par. But the last two birdies brought him back and added a 74 to his opening 71. He's 3 over par and all alone in 55th place. If he ends up in that spot, he'll earn $4,600, but a good final round can get him much more. He tees off today at 10:10 PST from No. 10, with Bob Estes and Shane Bertsch, formerly of Palatka.

Ernie Els (66-68-134) is the 36-hole leader at 8 under par, one stroke ahead of Lee Janzen, Retief Goosen and Cameron Beckman, the first-round leader who fell to a 71 Saturday. The No. 1 player, Bernhard Langer, had an unaccustomed round of 73 after his opening 65.

Gators: Scott Dunlap, who earned his way in from the alternate list, is tied for 26th at 1 under with 72-69-141. Chris DiMarco is 8 over with 72-78-150, and Mark Calcavecchia is 13 over with 76-79-155.
