A Bit of Both, Archidust Win OBS Races
Tuesday, November 26, 2019

A large crowd turned out in sunny weather for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company 2019 November Day of Racing, headed by the pair of six-furlong OBS Sprint Stakes for OBS graduates.

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC, Darsan Inc., Bethlehem Stables and David Simon’s A Bit of Both stalked the early leader in the $125,000 OBS Filly and Mare Sprint, took command on the turn, opened daylight in the stretch and was best by 3 1/2 lengths over Lonnie Stokes’ Caramel Martini (January ’19). Northwest Thoroughbreds LLC’s Ms Meshak (August ‘16) checked in third. That’s three stakes victories for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Paynter, now 9-7-1-1 with earnings of $289,310. Trained by Jason Servis, she was ridden by Paco Lopez and raced the distance in 1:10 4/5. She was sold by breeder Darsan Inc. for $10,000 at the 2017 OBS October Selected Yearling Sale.

In the day’s final race, the $125,000 OBS Sprint, Crawford Farms Racing’s Archidust slipped through on the inside to take charge in the stretch, then held off a late charge by Ed and Susie Orr’s Boldor (April ’18) to score by a length and three quarters, with Dawn Mendez and Steve Henry’s Front Loaded (August ’15) settling for third by the same margin.  It’s the third stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Verrazano, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased by Juan Pacanins, Agent, for $300,000 out of the Whitman Sales consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. Now 10-5-1-1 for trainer Jorge Navarro, he has earned $264,050 to date.
