OBS Sale Grosses nearly $50 MIllion

    Hip 318, a bay colt by More Than Ready, sold for $1,200,000 as the second hip in the ring on day 2 of the OBS sale. He goes to K S I from the Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent consignment. The colt is out of the Indian Charlie mare Broad Spectrum, making him a half-brother to stakes-placed Broad Approval. He went 9 4/5 in his furlong breeze.

    Hip 532, a bay filly by American Pharoah, sold to Donato Lanni, agent for $1,000,000. From the Top Line Sales, Agent consignment, she is out of the Forest Camp mare Just Parker, who is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed stakes-winner Qahira. The filly went 10-flat in her eighth-mile breeze.

    Hip 438, a dark bay/brown colt by Bolt d’Oro out of Foolish Cause, by Giant’s Causeway, herself a half-sister to multiple Gr. 1- winning millionaire Get Stormy. The colt is a half-brother to stakes-winner Foolish Humor and went 9 4/5 for his eighth-mile breeze. Consigned to the sale by Top Line Sales LLC as agent, the colt sold to Hideyuki Mori for $900,000.

    Hip 437, a chestnut colt by Mor Spirit out of the Indian Charlie mare Follow My Tail, herself a half-sister to Group winner Freefourracing, went 9 4/5 in his furlong breeze. He also sold to Hideyuki Mori for $700,000 from the Wavertree Stables Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent consignment.

    Hip 548, a bay colt by freshman sire West Coast who breezed a quarter in 21-flat, sold to Carolyn Wilson for $570,000. Out of the Bernardini mare Kimono, the colt is a half-brother to stakes-winner Keke Kimono. He is consigned to the sale by Eddie Woods, agent.

    Hip 529, a dark bay/brown filly by West Coast out of Juliamarie, by Mizzen Mast, making the mare a half-sister to graded stakes- winning millionaire Willcox Inn. The filly went 10-flat in her furlong work from the de Meric Sales, Agent consignment and goes to Maverick Racing for $525,000.

    Hip 381, a gray/roan colt from the first crop of undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify out of graded stakes-winner Dancinginherdreams, went 20 4/5 in his quarter-mile breeze. From the Parrish Farms, Agent consignment, he goes to Rosedown Racing Stables, Oracle Bloodstock, Agent for $425,000.

    Hip 456, a bay colt by first-year sire Awesome Slew out of Genau, by Into Mischief hails from the family of graded stakes-winning millionaire and OBS graduate Western Pride. Consigned by Ocala Stud, he goes to Klaravich Stable Inc. for $400,000 after a 20 4/5 quarter-mile breeze.

    Hip 476, Prince of Justice, is another Justify colt out of the Silver Deputy mare Haddie Be Good, herself a half-sister to stakes- winner Story to Tell. The chestnut colt goes to Katsumi Yoshida for $400,000 from the Niall Brennan Stables, Agent consignment after working a furlong in 10-flat.

    Hip 496, a chestnut filly by Mendelssohn out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Honey Trap, herself a half-sister to two stakes-winners, goes to Jonathan S. Thomas, agent for $400,000 from the Paul Sharp, Agent consignment. The filly breezed an eighth in 10 1/5.

169 horses changed hands compared to 150 in 2021.

An increase in gross sales to $22,111,000 from $18,844,500, resulted in a 17.3% increase.

Average price rose to $130,834 from $125,630 for a 4.1% increase.

Median price rose to $70,000 from $68,500.

Buyback rate was 17.1%, down from 19.3% in 2021.
 

For the entire sale:

375 head sold compared to 325 in 2021.

Gross sales of $49,656,000, compared to $37,970,000 in 2021 resulted in a 30.7% increase.

Average price rose to $132,416 from $116,831 for a 13.3% rise.

Median price of $75,000 rose 25% over last year's median of $60,000.

Buyback rate was 12.8%, compared to 16.4% in 2021.
