Potter's Missed Cut Streak is Over
Monday, March 6, 2023

Ted Potter has finally made it onto the PGA Tour's money list, barely. After 12 consecutive missed cuts on two tours, Ted's 1-under-par (71-72-69-75-287) performance at the Puerto Rico Open left him in a tie for 59th and he earned his first paycheck in ages - $8,664.

So Ted moved onto the money list at No. 227, and only two others are behind him. But it's a start.

Heading into round 4 yesterday, Ted was four under par and in a deadlock for 44th place, with a chance to improve on it via another round like his Saturday 69. However, after an even-par 36 on the front nine, where he made one birdie and one par, Ted lost it on the back with a 3-over 39, which included two bogeys and a double.

Ted won't be able to get into the next three big-time events, this week's Players Championship in Ponte Vedra, next week's Valspar Championship at Palm Harbor or the WGC-Dell Technologies the week after, but he should be on board for the March 23 Corales Puntacana Championship in Mexico.

Gator Camilo Villegas, who's fighting for playing time like Ted, finished in a tie for 48th at 4 under par; Seminole Hank Lebioda tied for 20th at 10 under.

At Bay Hill, winner Kurt Kitayama was only able to manage an even-par 72 on Sunday, but his 9 under finish was enough to give him a one-stroke victory over Rory McIlroy and Harris English, who both closed with 2-under 70s.

On a difficult scoring day, only nine players in the field broke 70, led by Davis Riley and Webb Simpson with 6-under 66s. But Riley had knocked himself out with a Saturday 77 and finished at 6 under, and Webb did likewise with a Saturday 76 and finished at 2 under.

Two Gators have made it into the Players field in Ponte Vedra - Billy Horschel and rookie Tyson Alexander, who is 51st on the FedEx Cup points list.
