Potter Survives Cut in Wells Fargo Championship in N. C.
Saturday, May 8, 2021

The cut line at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, see-sawed all afternoon from even par to 1 over to 2 over and back, and when the smoke had cleared late in the day, it wound up at plus 2. Ted Potter also stumbled through a see-saw round after starting round 2 at even par, making four birdies and four bogeys for a second straight 71. He survived the cut safely by two strokes, his second made cut in a row.

Ted went through a day where he hit just 8 of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens. But he was able to scramble his way into a tie for 41st place, still in contention only six strokes behind the leading trio of Matt Wallace (69-67), Gary Woodland (67-69) and Patrick Rodgers (68-68). Ted began on the back nine and saved the round on the greens, making a putt of 6 feet, 8 inches for birdie on No. 10, 6 feet, 4 inches on No. 3, 15 feet, 11 inches for birdie on No. 5, and getting up and down from various long distances all day.

Ted tees of today at 9:35 a. m. in the company of one of the best players on Tour, Justin Thomas, and both have a chance to rebound into the land of big paydays in the event that carries a purse of $8.1 million.

Phil Mickelson, who shot 64 to take the lead Thursday, couldn't repeat the magic and shot 75, dropping to a tie for 10th at 3 under. Ditto for Keegan Bradley (66-75) and Tommy Fleetwood (67-75). Seminole Hank Lebioda made the cut with 72-71-143, 1 over par.
