Palmer and English Tied at the Top in Hawaii
Sunday, January 10, 2021

Six players who were among the pre-tournament favorites at the Sentry Tournament of Champions being played in Hawaii, have several things in common after the completion of 54 holes at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui.

Sergio Garcia, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Brendan Todd and Xander Schauffele are all 14 under par over the par-73 layout, they are seven strokes behind co-leaders Ryan Palmer and Harris English, and they all have virtually no chance of winning the first event of the 2021 season.

Palmer, who shot 9-under 64 for Saturday's best round, and English, who shot 7-under 66, are tied at 21 under, one stroke ahead of Collin Morikawa. There are another six sitting between the top two and the big-name six who are at 14 under, and that's the rub. Making up seven strokes in the finale is difficult enough, but to get there by passing seven players who are at the top of their game is almost impossible without having an erupting volcano spray lava all over the course.

Seminole Daniel Berger is very much in the hunt after rounds of 69-65-67-201, 18 under, and he's one better than Sungjae Im and Justin Thomas. Gator Billy Horschel is alive at 16-under 203 (71-66-66), while Gator Brian Gay is tied for 26th in the 42-man field at 11-under 208 (70-67-71).
