More New Faces on Top at The American Express
Sunday, January 24, 2021

The top of the leaderboard seems to change almost every day at every PGA Tour event these days and the American Express being played at PGA West in La Quinta has been no different. First-round leader Brandon Hagy at 8 under is now tied for 20th, the same spot occupied by second-round leader Sungjae Im, who was 11 under.

The new leaders heading into today's finale at 15 under are Max Homa, Si Woo Kim and Tony Finau and it promises to be quite a finish, especially since there are 21 others within five strokes of the lead.

Ted Potter bowed out after 36 holes with rounds of 72-71-143, 1 under par. The cut line kept moving Friday and wound up at 4 under. Ted was 2 over after 10 holes after experiencing some wayward tee shots on the front nine, and he bounced back with birdies on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes to get back to 1 under. But he was unable to keep the streak going, making par on the last five holes.

The only Seminole left is southpaw Hank Lebioda, who is tied for 48th at 6 under. Brooks Koepka is gone after emulating Ted with 72-71. Gator Brian Gay left after 74-68, Camilo Villegas exploded to a Friday 79 after Thursday's 69, and Matt Every did likewise at 12 over.
