Hadley Leads Dustin at Palmetto Championship; Potter Goes Home
Saturday, June 12, 2021

There was a great deal of news emanating from the first edition of the Palmetto Championship at Congaree, not the least of which was the withdrawal of several key players after they finished high on the leader board in the Memorial the previous week

Added to that was the downfall of Wes Roach, who led after day one with a 7-under-64, then dropped into a tie for 29th via a 6-over-77 on day two. Then there's Dustin Johnson, who goes into round 3 today in second place, two strokes behind Chesson Hadley, after rounds of 65-68-133, 9 under par. Hadley leads with 65-66-131, 11 under. Tain Lee is third at 7 under-135, and there are six tied for fourth at 6 under.

After knocking himself out in round 1 with a 6-over-77, Ted Potter didn't make a birdie in round 2, winding up with 80 and missing the cut of +1 by 15 strokes.

Then there was Mark Hensby, who's ready to try the Champions Tour later this month. Hensby, who played in the FSGA event at Golden Hills several years ago, hit a ball in the water, and dropped another ball that didn't match the ones he was playing with - he had switched one ball with Pat Perez on the putting green. Hensby was assessed a 10-stroke penalty (two strokes each for the five holes he used the wrong ball) and missed the cut by a mile.

The only ex-Florida collegian to make the cut was Hank Lebioda (68-74-142, even par); Brooks Koepka (72-73-145), Camilo Villegas (73-72-145), Brian Gay (72-74-146) and Matt Every (74-76-150) all headed home.
