Grillo Shoots 68, Lead Slips to One
Sunday, December 6, 2020

Suddenly, Emiliano Grillo winning for the first time since 2015 doesn't look nearly as promising as it did 24 hours ago. After beginning yesterday's third round at the Mayakoba Golf Classic four strokes in front, Emiliano's 3-under-68 allowed a bunch of pursuers to get within close range of overtaking him in today's finale at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Grillo heads into round 4 at a respectable 16-under, but now he's just one stroke ahead of Tom Hoge, who shot 65, two ahead of Viktor Hovland, who shot 9-under-63, and three ahead of Adam Long, who also shot 63. Still in the hunt at 12 under are Justin Thomas, who was really cooking with a Saturday 62, and Patrick Rodgers, who posted a 65.

With the way birdies are flying, it's not out of the realm of possibility someone even further behind could explode for a 62 or 63 and have lunch in the clubhouse while waiting for the leaders to finish.

Gator Billy Horschel is tied for 15th at 9 under after his 65, and Camilo Villegas is tied for 20th at 8 under after a 69. Seminole Daniel Berger's 67 left him at 7 under and tied for 28th, while Hank Lebioda is 3 under and tied for 56th after his 70.
