Until recently, Marion County had continuously been represented by players on the PGA Tour, beginning with three-time winner Mike Sullivan four decades ago. Mike was followed by winner Grant Waite, Brendan Pappas, Doug Johnson, three-time winner Ted Potter and, briefly, Roger Rowland.
Without another since the absence of Potter, we concentrate on former Gators and Seminoles, since both schools have many grads living in the county and UF is only 25 miles up the road.
There are eight Gators and Seminoles playing on tour now, and six of them are competing in the first Biltmore Championship in Asheville. Only Seminoles Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka are AWOL from the event being played over the par-71 Asheville Cliffs at Walnut Cove course.
Here are the other six, starting with Gators, and their resumes for 2026 and how they stand after 36 holes at the Biltmore:
Ricky Castillo: 69-62-131 (11 under, tied for 3rd); played 19 events, made 18 cuts; one win, 2 top 10s, 3 top 25s, $1,747,734.
Billy Horschel: 67-68-135 (7 under, tied for 20th); played 24 events, made 14 cuts; 1 top 10, 5 top 25s, $1,362,544.
