Garcia and Spieth 7 Under at Charles Schwab Challenge
Friday, May 28, 2021

As opposed to so many events in recent months, two familiar names were tied atop the leader board after round 1 of the $7.5 million Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Sergio Garcia and Jordan Spieth both shot 7-under-par 63's to take a one-stroke lead over Jason Kokrak and Erik Compton. Garcia's round of 32-31 included five birdies and an eagle, while Spieth's 31-32 was forged with seven birdies. Neither player made a bogey.

Phil Mickelson wasn't able to build on his sensational PGA Championship victory, and he's tied for 87th at 3 over par 73. The early projected cut is set at 1 over.

Seminole Daniel Berger is tied for 17th at 2-under 68; among the Gators, Camilo Villegas is tied for 31st at 1 under, Billy Horschel is tied for 52nd at 1 over, and Brian Gay is at 3 over 73.
