Burns Still Leads Genesis Despite 3rd-Round 74
Sunday, February 21, 2021

As happens so often on the weekend, the Rivera Country Club was the big winner, as only three players were able to break 70 Saturday in the third round of the $9.3 million Genesis Invitational. When the smoke had cleared, 36-hole leader Sam Burns was still in front after 54 holes despite a 3-over-par 74 in round 3.

Burns heads into today's finale at 9 under after he had held a five-stroke lead at the halfway point with rounds of 64-66-130. Now, he's just two in front of Max Homa, who shot 70, Matthew Fitzpatrick, who shot 69, and Dustin Johnson, with a third-round 71.

Other than Fitzpatrick, only Matt Jones and Talor Gooch broke 70, both with 69s. They're both at 208, 5 under, and tied for fifth. Seminole Brooks Koepka stumbled to a 77 and is 2 over, and Gator Brian Gay also shot 77 and is 5 over.
