Ted Potter isn't likely to forget the 13th hole at Pebble Beach any time soon.
Beginning on the back nine yesterday in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Ted was 1-under par after canning a putt of 14 feet, 4 inches for a birdie on No. 10, and making par on 11 and 12. But, after hitting the par-4 13th in three, just 14 feet, 10 inches from another par, Ted needed four putts to finally put it in the hole. He was now 2 over for the day and 3 over for his two rounds.
Ted rebounded from the disaster, making three birdies and one bogey on his last five holes on the back, then making a bogey on 1 and birdies on 2 and 4; he was even par for 31 holes, with five to play. The cut line was firm at 1 under and all Ted needed was one more birdie . . . but he made 5 straight pars to finish at 144, even par. Even a double on No. 13 would have sent him to the weekend.
Jordan Spieth took the halfway lead in the $7.8 million event with 65-67-132, 12 under par, one stroke better than Seminole Daniel Berger, with 67-66-133. Patrick Cantlay held on to a tie for third despite following his opening-round, record-equaling 62 with 73 for 135, 9 under. He's tied with Tom Lewis and Paul Casey.
Seminole Hank Lebioda is alive at 4 under, tied for 25th, as is Gator Brian Gay (70-72-142, 2 under, tied for 51st). Matt Every withdrew after a Thursday 77.
