WGC-Dell Highlights Depth of PGA Tour
Sunday, March 27, 2022

The current depth of the player roster on the PGA Tour has never been more apparent than while perusing the final four contesting the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship today.

Dustin Johnson, the No. 8 seed, is playing No. 5 Scottie Scheffler in the semi-finals, while No. 36 Corey Connors faces No. 29 Kevin Kisner in the other match. In the quarter-finals on Saturday, Scheffler defeated No. 42 Seamus Power, 3&2, while Dustin beat No. 16 Brooks Koepka on the 18th hole, 2up. Conners defeated No. 15 Abraham Ancer, 2 up, and Kisner beat No. 24 Will Zalatoris, 4&3.

Notice the absence of eight other top 10 players? Where is No. 1 Jon Rahm? He lost to Koepka on the 19th hole in the round of 16, and No. 2 Collin Morikawa lost to Ancer, 7&6, in the same round. Scheffler also beat Gator Billy Horschel (No.12) in that round, 1 up.

There is no Tiger Woods, or Jack Nicklaus, or Arnold Palmer, or Gary Player, or Lee Trevino to stir up the crowd like the good old days, and we have to wonder if that will affect TV audiences down the road. Stay tuned.
