Unknown Li Leads PGA Championship By Two
Saturday, August 8, 2020

The third-round leader in the PGA Championship won't be known until 10 p. m. or a little later tonight on the east coast since the leaders don't tee off until 3 p. m. west coast time, or 6 p. m. EDT.

Once again, the name at the top of the board is a virtual unknown - Haotong Li - whose 67-65-132 is 8 under par over the TPC Harding Park course in San Francisco. Li holds a two-stroke lead over a group of six, five of whom are quite familiar to the public and who will take dead aim at the newcomer. The sixth is Mike Lorenzo-Vera, who nobody ever heard of, much like Donald Trump's take on the word "emoluments."

The other five chasing Li are Tommy Fleetwood, whose Friday 64 was best of the group, along with Jason Day, Justin Rose, and the FSU buddies, Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger.

Tiger Woods added a 2-over-par 72 to his opening 68 for even-par 140, eight strokes off the pace. Tiger made five birdies and three bogeys in round 1 and two birdies and four bogeys on Friday. While his putting was right on in the opener, yesterday it was pretty close to dreadful, costing him several spots on the leaderboard.

Phil Mickelson made it right on the cut line of plus 1 with 72-69-141, but such as Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson, Henrik Stenson, Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia will be watching the weekend play from their couches. Gator Billy Horschel's 69-71-140 made it by a stroke.
